N.D.A. offers a variety of services to support dyslexic people and those who work with them.
The area we serve covers Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland in the East Midlands region of the UK.

N.D.A. offers free information and advice about dyslexia and related issues to people living or working in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire or Rutland. You can get help by:

• Telephoning our helpline (O115 924 6888) to discuss your problem with one of our trained staff. We are open 10am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday. We close for lunch 12:30 to 1:00pm.
• Leaving an out-of-hours message on our helpline answerphone. Tell us your postal address so that we can send appropriate information leaflets.
• Sending an email enquiry. Again, tell us your postal address and we will reply by email or post to people in our area.

From time to time, there are special events offering information and advice about dyslexia.

N.D.A. co-ordinates meetings for groups with a special interest related to dyslexia and for people living in areas at a distance from our centre in Nottingham.

Unless stated otherwise, group meetings are free (though we ask for a donation to cover the cost of refreshments) and you do not need to book in advance.

Some groups do not meet in the summer holiday period and in December: check the diary on the What's on page.

Groups currently running meetings are:

• Lincoln Regional Support Group

  Lincoln runs two support groups. One is for dyslexic adults and the other for families with dyslexic children.
  Some meetings are suitable for members of either group, or for teachers and others with an interest in dyslexia.
  Children are not invited to meetings of the adult group
  Children are welcome at family group meetings. Some meetings are specially for them. Others will be of more interest to parents and teachers.
  
  Meetings are normally from 7pm to 9pm on the SECOND MONDAY of each month (except in the summer holiday period). From Septmeber 2007, they will be in a new location, which will be announced later.

• Rutland Dyslexia

  This group meets from time to time, usually at
  The Quaker Meeting House, Gaol Street, Oakham LE15 6AQ.

• TANDA Group

  The TANDA (Teachers Affiliated to N.D.A.) group is open only to teachers who hold a professional qualification in the teaching of students with specific learning difficulties.
  TANDA is affiliated to PATOSS.
  Members make an annual subcription. They receive the TANDA newsletter and are entitled to borrow specialist assessment materials (as well as generally available books and resources) from the N.D.A. Resource Centre. TANDA members also receive the N.D.A. and B.D.A. newsletters.
  The TANDA Group meets at intervals at the N.D.A. Centre, Sherwood House,7 Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham NG3 3EH (in the Page Kirk Building). There is sometimes a guest speaker at meetings

N.D.A. offers a variety of training courses for dyslexic people and those who work with them.

We run courses which individuals can join.
N.D.A. charges a fee for some courses.
Other courses are funded by organisations which will pay for people who meet certain requirements, such as the place where they live or their employment status.

N.D.A. may be able to deliver an individualised package of in-house training for employers, schools etc. To discuss this, ring 0115 924 6880.

A dyslexia screening test assesses the level of risk that a person may be dyslexic.
It may also give information about an individual's learning style, which can help him to identify the most effective way to work and study.

A dyslexia assessment is a more in-depth investigation which can diagnose dyslexia and give detailed information about the learning needs of the individual. It is often undertaken following a screening which indicates a high risk of dyslexia.

N.D.A. offers screening and assessment for adults. We can provide:

• the Quickscan dyslexia screening test for adults
• adult assessments carried out by teachers with a specialist dyslexia qualification.

NEW We now also offer assessment for children. We hope to offer a children's screening service soon.
Children's assessments are carried out by teachers with a specialist dyslexia qualification.

There is usually a charge for screening or assessment, though we may be able to obtain funding for certain groups of clients.

N.D.A. produces a newsletter for subscribers three times a year. This contains details of local events, news about the organisation, and a range of other items of interest.

The British Dyslexia Association publishes a magazine 'Dyslexia Contact', which also appears three times a year. This reviews news and developments at the national level.

The TANDA teachers' group has its own newsletter, for members only.

There are different subscriptions rates depending on the newsletters required.

N.D.A. has a Resource Centre where anyone may look at books and other resources, and Library Subscribers may borrow items.

Items available include:

• Books about dyslexia and related topics for the general reader
• Specialist books and journals for the professional reader
• Teaching materials for dyslexic learners
• Books particularly suitable for dyslexic readers (especially children)
• Assessment materials for teachers (available to TANDA members only)
• A collection of books and teaching materials for Special Educational Needs Coordinators of schools in the area.
• A small collection of audio tapes about dyslexia and the rights of dyslexic people.
• Teaching games and learning aids
• Information sheets on a wide range of dyslexia-related topics.
• Official publications on rights and services for dyslexic people in education, employment etc.
• A selection of books for sale

The Resource Centre is located at N.D.A. Centre, Sherwood House,7 Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham NG3 3EH (in the Page Kirk Building).
It is usually open at least within Helpline hours - Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm - but please ring the helpline on 0115 924 6888 to check before you visit.

A smaller selection of leaflets is usually available at support group meetings.
