What's On At N.D.A.

This page tells you about meetings and courses which N.D.A. plans for the future.
Meetings are stand alone events on a single day.
Courses require more commitment. You may need to attend sessions over a period of time and there may be a course fee.

This page also lists our current projects, which provide free dyslexia screening, assessment or training for eligible adults.

N.D.A. Courses

N.D.A. runs courses for dyslexic people.

Courses available for individuals are listed below.
You must book a place on a course. You should expect to attend a sequence of sessions. To make a booking, or to obtain more information, ring our booking number (0115 924 6880).

There is a charge for some courses. Other courses may be available free to people who meet certain funding criteria.

We have opportunities for eligible dyslexic adults to get free training.

Learning for Life and Work

A Personal Development course for Adults with Dyslexia

Free for adults living in Nottinghamshire or Nottingham City who know or believe that they are dyslexic

Who benefits from this course?

  • People new to their dyslexia - gain understanding
  • Dyslexics overwhelmed by limitations - learn step by step action planning
  • Dyslexics wanting a life change - share success and gain new insights
  • Dyslexics fearful of learning - find coping strategies
  • Dyslexics overwhelmed by emotions - learn self-management skills
  • Dyslexics wanting to earn - find confidence to apply for jobs

The course trainers are qualified experts in Dyslexia and Personal Development.

Anyone interested is asked attend a pre-course 'taster' session. Taster sessions allow you to decide whether the course will meet your needs. You must attend a taster course before you can join a Learning for Life and Work Course.

New courses are planned for Autumn 2008.
These courses are funded by the Learning and Skills Council.

Touch Type Read and Spell

Logo of T.T.R.S.

Touch Type Read and Spell (TTRS) is a multi-sensory computer aided learning programme for people with reading, spelling or writing difficulties. It is suitable for adults and for children aged from 7. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult.

  • Develop literacy skills whilst learning to touch type
  • Increase confidence, self-esteem and motivation
  • Work at individual level and speed
  • Work independently with the support of a TTRS trained tutor

You can start a course at any time, as courses run on a rolling program, and everyone works at their own pace.
Classes take place weekly and last for one hour.
Class times are:

Nottingham
Weds 4.30pm, Sat 9:30 am, 10:30 am, 11.30am

There may sometimes be a waiting list to join a class.

The fee for children is £12:50 per session, payable termly.
The fee for adults is £15:00 per session.

Intensive Summer TTRS Course.

We are again running an intensive TTRS course during the school summer holidays.
This year, the course will run for one week, with students working for two hours on each of five days. Each session consists of two one-hour classes separated by a half-hour break.
All students will be invited to attend a free trial session in advance of the course. You must attend a trial session to be accepted on the course.
You may choose to attend either the morning sessions or the afternoon sessions.

N.D.A. Projects - Free Opportunities for Eligible Adults

FREE Dyslexia Screening, Assessment and Tuition for Eligible Adults

Do you think you might be dyslexic? (or perhaps you already know you are?)
Do you find reading and writing difficult?
Do you want to improve your basic reading and writing?
Do you want to know how computers and other ICT tools can help dyslexic people?
Do you live in the East Midlands?

If the answers are YES, one of our projects might help you.
We have various projects to help dyslexic adults to find out more about the way they learn and to improve their skills.
Depending on where you live, you may be be eligible for free help from a project.
Each project offers a different selection of opportunities.

The Lincolnshire Dyslexia Outreach project (LDO2) for adults in Lincolnshire.

This project offers a package of dyslexia support to people living in Lincolnshire who believe they may be dyslexic.

Participants are initially offered a dyslexia screening test. Those who are found to be at risk of dyslexia are offered a personalised program of activities, including assessment and tuition suited to the needs of the individual.

This project is funded by HM Treasury Office and Lincolnshire County Council.

Dyslexia Support for adults in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire.

This project offers dyslexia support to people living in Nottinghamshire or the City of Nottingham.

A strictly limited number of dyslexia assessments and advice sessions are available.

The Learning for Life and Work courses listed above are also funded by this project.

COMING SOON!

We shall be offering literacy and numeracy tuition to people aged 19+ in employment who live in Nottinghamshire or Nottingham city and who do not have any qualifications at level 2 or above.

This is part of the Train to Gain scheme and is offered in partnership with employers.

Calendar of N.D.A. Meetings

Meetings or workshops may be intended for dyslexic adults and children, for the parents of dyslexic children and for teachers and others who work with dyslexic people.
Some meetings are suitable for only some of these people - see the 'audience' column.

There is often no charge for attending these events, but we ask for a donation to cover the cost of refreshments. If a charge is made, it is listed on the calendar.
